Languedoc-Roussillon More than any other wine-producing region in France, Languedoc-Roussillon lives and breathes wine. With an annual Vin de Pays harvest of approximately 8 million hectolitres, 3.5 million of which are Vins de Pays d’Oc, this region alone accounts for 70 % of all French Vins de Pays. Backing on to the ranges of the Cévennes and the Black Mountains, stretching from the Rhône to the Pyrénées, the vineyards of Languedoc-Roussillon look out over the Mediterranean sea. Inundated with light and sun, filled with the fragrant smells of the “garrigue”, of pine, cypress, almond and olive trees, it is also a land of great contrast where ferocious winds sometimes blow. Rising up from the land (Mistral, Cers, Tramontane) these winds cleanse the vines and dry out the leaves and grapes. When they blow in from the sea, they cool the vine and lessen the effects of drought. There are 60 classifications in Languedoc-Roussillon. There is a regional classification, Vin de Pays d’Oc, which may be used by the four departments. 4 departmental Vins de Pays :
